The People's Burn Foundation

Kindari O’Connor explains how unique storytelling, collaboration and education come together to better connect with the college-aged demographic.

Burn injuries are some of the most painful and challenging any victim will face. The People's Burn Foundation exists to help those suffering from such injuries, as well as preventing future injuries through education and training programs.

The Challenge:

  • Teach college students about fire prevention in an engaging and appealing way, while being informative and educational at the same time.

The Solution:

  • Develop a dramatic, yet educational video piece to be shown on college campuses across the United States before freshmen orientation.
  • The first part of the video attached the audience to the characters and drew them into the storyline, while the second part educated the viewers on what they could have done differently to prevent the situation.
  • The piece focused on developing the characters into everyday college students to draw the viewers out of thinking "it can't happen to me" and explain that it's not a matter of will it happen to them, but what can they do today to prevent it.

The Results:

  • The result was a 28 minute video that is currently going through pilot testing to gather feedback and comments from college students before distribution of 38,000 copies to colleges across the Unites States.
